Your dental team’s personal instructions come first. Use this guide to help you prepare and care for your smile at home.
Everyday care & what to expect
Congratulations on receiving your night guard! This will be your new best friend, you won’t be able to go a night without it! Night guards keep your teeth happy and healthy!
What to expect
If this is your first night guard, you may experience some discomfort while wearing the guard. In the beginning, you may accidentally remove it while sleeping. This should settle down over time as you get used to wearing the guard. You may also experience some drooling while wearing the nightguard, this is normal behaviour.
What to do
Run the night guard under warm to hot water to help make it more pliable and comfortable before insertion.
Nightguard comfort
Insert the night guard once you get home and only take it out when eating or drinking anything else other than water. With this method, it will become like second nature to you by bedtime and you are less likely to remove it while sleeping.
Care instructions
Do not clean the night guard with anything but a toothbrush and water. You may use polident or other retainer cleaners to soak your guard in while you are not using it. DO NOT USE TOOTHPASTE AS IT CAN DAMAGE THE GUARD
When you come into the office, bring your night guard with you as we will clean the night guard at no charge! :)
Pain or sensitivity
If any pain or sensitivity arises, please contact our office at (519)763-1488 to book an appointment and we will assess the fit of the night guard again.
